The Kimmax German Wirehaired Pointer website was set up for my wife Maxine and is maintained by her. It is the test bed of lots of new ideas from time to time.

The website is extremely busy for a niche website attraction over 2,000 visits a month with significant time spent watching videos and reading the specialist content.

It has an excellent position on Google, appearing on the first page in the UK and worldwide on almost all terms relating to German Wirehaired Pointer or Deutsch Drahthaar.

A successful supplier to John Lewis with their own unique patented designs for flexible bay window poles, they decided to improve their direct sales as John Lewis started producing their own lines of inferior imported products.

The site was completely redesigned away from their earlier one based on a standard shopping engine system. The redesign was to enable three main things;

  • Allow Judy and Daryl edit and add site content via a browser
  • Integrate with Flickr to allow images to be quickly added and removed
  • Redesigned to improve their placement on Google for critical terms such as ‘hand made steel curtain poles’.
  • Provide Judy and Daryl with instant access to statistics on visitors and trends

This project was a low budget web design for an inventor starting up a new business. The major focus of the project was to attract potential distributors and investors.

The key part of the project was the filming and production of an on-line video of the new air gun target system in action. This was captured digitally in the field using HD camcorders and then edited using a combination of iMovie, Final Cut Express and Keynote on an Apple Mac to produce and compress the final video for the website, including slow motion sequences.

In addition a logo and title graphics were designed to fit in with the theme of the air gun target mechanism and key terms were targeted on Google to aid the generation of traffic.

The nature of dog Breed Clubs means it is important that the Club Committee can input new articles and update information themselves. They have to follow Kennel Club regulations for announcements of shows and rarely have time or money to wait for web design companies to update sites.

This ‘blog’ based design allows key members of the GSPA Committee to maintain their own areas of responsibility, adding new articles, editing existing content and even removing old content.

The site is run for the benefit of the GSPA membership and all content is approved and maintained by the GSPA Committee members logging in to the site via a web browser.
